Spiritual Gifts Rant

In the beginning, there was God, and later, a group of people God called his children, and they called God their father. In time, they would reject him, and God would harshly punish them. Prophets foretold a Messiah and that Savior came to earth and remained a sinless man, but the religion of the day crucified Jesus. Jesus was God and returned to life, which had been foretold. He was there 40 days with countless witnesses, who all believed in him. On the 40th day, Jesus introduced the Holy Spirit to His followers. He said that Spirit would be inside them and would have great power. After Jesus left the earth, Christians were persecuted and even killed. One of those religious men who sought to punish Christ’s followers was Saul. Jesus appeared to him and stopped the man, blinded him, and set him up to be the greatest missionary. He taught the Gospel of Christ to much of the Mediterranean Sea basin. In time, Paul, as he was now known, wrote many letters included in our Bibles. His fourth letter was his longest, and it was directed to The Church at Corinth.  He wrote about sexual sins, greed/idols/abusiveness/drunkenness/cheating, lawsuits, adultery/prostitution/thieves/and more, proper sex within marriage, marrying unbelievers, and divorce. These subjects are “doctrines” in nearly every church in the USA and some made it into US Law.

In that longest letter he devoted the most writing to one item: Spiritual Gifts. The letter has been turned into 16 chapters (84 verses) in our Bibles – three of which teach the church – your church and mine  – about Spiritual Gifts. In the first paragraph of those three full chapters, Paul writes, “Regarding Spiritual Gifts, I do not want you ignorant or unaware about Spiritual Gifts.” 2000 years later, most of us ARE ignorant or we do not make the time to study this vital truth Paul presented thoroughly.
